One of the few locally owned and operated coffee shops in Vegas is The Beat, located in Downtown’s Fremont East district, The Beat serves fair trade coffees and vintage vinyl. Both a cafĂ© and used record store, The Beat is also home to The Burlesque Hall of Fame and the gateway to Emerency Arts, a co-op of privately held galleries featuring the works of Vegas’s emerging and established artists and photographers.
This is where the write-up ends and the anecdote begins.
I went to The Beat last weekend to grab a cappuccino and play Angry Birds. A man sitting one table over from mine was browsing the internet on his laptop, the store was playing an old Neil Diamond record. I noticed that the afore mentioned man was using his phone to snap photos of his laptop. Of course I peaked over to see what he was shooting. He was taking shots of porn in a classic Turning Japanese picture of a picture fashion. I dd not ask him why. Instead I empathized and came up with my own explanation. The man does not have Internet access in the place where he masrurbates. My first guess home, my second the bathroom at work. He is taking pictures of porn at the coffee shop so that he can view them later in an environment conducive to blow-drying his rabbit, if you know what I mean.
That being said, there are two conveniences we must never take for granted: 1) a coffee shop with free wi-fi 2) internet access in the bedroom.
So, make sure to check out The Beat for a taste of java and local culture.
Yours truly,
Frankie Android
